Detroit As A Big Shooting Zone
Maybe you heard what many people now are shooting more than ever before in Detroit city? And I’m not talking about criminal activities, by the shooting, I meant shooting the movies. People in Detroit city now considering more about new business opportunities to revive and retrieve back to glory! And the tax movie incentive gives a big chance to start your own entertainment project!
My advice to a starter filmmaker is to shoot the movie in relatively free and small cities like Detroit. Why? Because there you can catch more attention from the press and be promoted cheaper than, for example, in LA. In the mentioned LA people even make living by selling locations to movie makers. In the cities like Detroit, where the most locations are abandoned, or out of PR (thanks for a plane and negative media campaign) you can take an opportunity. Just imagine that you can use some abandoned manufacturing plants or commercial facilities in the downtown for your future horror or action movies! Have you ever thought about that prospect?
You can obtain local permission even to shoot in close and lives areas of downtown Greek Town, Woodward, Jefferson Ave with the view on the Renaissance Center. Can you make the same in NY or LA as an independent movie maker? Of course you can but it will be doubled! And believe or not, the downtown of Detroit city has its own live spots! Many people are doing now the same attempts, coming to the D from Hollywood, and that’s not only for a tax incentive, it’s like I said a big wave of opportunity!
In the small provincial or “ghost” cities price for a shooting, locking and promoting goes dramatically down. Your event will be hyped there quicker, as well as you want. However, another interesting moment here that Detroit city it is not a province it’s a legendary city, which has no need in an introduction! If you’re man without prejudices about that you should start! The doors of Detroit are opened for filmmakers of all colors! Just for comparison in the same LA, the movie business is not an event it’s a daily routine, so no one will be excited, especially with independent filmmakers like you and I in the city of stars.
Get the chance and contribute in Detroit. The city waits for you…
